When our kids completed high school and ‘left the nest’ for college, the countryside beckoned, and we moved to Ramona in October, 2019. When we saw a secluded hilltop home in Ramona, compete with a small vineyard it was love at first sight. With the previous owners of the property having moved overseas, our approx. 300 Cabernet Sauvignon vines were in need of some love, and ever since we’ve been working hard to look after and improve the health of these vines, which are around 10 years old. It’s been a steep learning curve, with knowledge gained from grape growing friends, Ramona Valley Vineyard Association (RVVA), taking a vineyard management class, books, SNS, etc., and although challenging, it has been a most enjoyable journey.
Just a little background about myself. I am Japanese, I was born in Japan, but since graduating college, I mainly lived outside of Japan due to my work. My husband is British and we have two grown-up kids. We moved to the US in 2009 due to my husband’s work. We have two dogs; Nocino (rescue Mutt) and Tartufo (Spinone Italiano). Both are doing great as vineyard guard dogs, and have contributed to the name of this magical place which is “Tartino vineyards”. Tartino being a combination of “TARTufo” and “nocINO”.
My current goal is to grow healthy, high quality grapes. Wine making may follow, likely when my husband retires, and I can imagine this peaceful and private place as a hidden spot for people to get together and enjoy the spectacular views over a glass of wine.
Welcome to Tartino Vineyards.
We are a family owned vineyard & winery which was established in 2015 in Ramona, California. We are inspired to produce exceptional wine while we keep our environmental impact the least and farm in a sustainable way
Bearing Fruit Vineyard is an 8.5 acre farm, with 1908 vines planted on 3 acres of that land. The vineyard produces an abundance of quality Malbec, Sangiovese and Petite Sirah wine grapes.
Our goal for the vines is an emphasis on quality, minimal intervention to allow the grapes to express the “terroir”, and a hands-on approach to farming.
The vision for Bearing Fruit Vineyard is for it to operate as a charitable, retirement endeavor. We will nurture the grapes to each harvest and arrange for their sale to select local wineries. At that point, 100% of the funds each year are directed to the Bearing Fruit Foundation and various charitable endeavors. This project supplements Frank & Karen Allen’s other annual /primary contributions to the Bearing Fruit Foundation.

At Las Glorias de María Vineyards we showcase some of Spain’s great native wine varietals known around the world like Tempranillo, Garnacha, Monastrell and Cariñena. We will also introduce some rare Spanish varietals exclusively grown in our vineyards such as Verdejo, Godello, Viura, Mencia, Graciano and Pedro Ximénez. It is the belief at Las Glorias de María Vineyards, Ramona can too make world class wine with varietals which can live up to the intense Ramona summers. Our vineyards are all planted and maintained old world style, Head Trained with no trellis systems. We acknowledge there are more efficient methods of developing and maintaining vineyards but we also believe vines planted in the traditional manner contribute to the uniqueness of the wines. We have dedicated our vineyards to our heritage. Spain and Mexico were navigated by our family over centuries and ultimately ended up in San Diego, California. The name of our vineyard is in honor of our mother, aunt and sister who carried on the legacy of our family but whose lives were cut short by cancer. Future partial proceeds will be donated to the fight against cancer.
Established in October 2015, Gualtieri Family Vineyard is one of the newer vineyards in Ramona. Our dream to start a vineyard began as a tribute to our Italian father Salvatore Joseph Gualtieri, MD and grandfather Joseph Ipolito Gualtieri from Conzensa, Calabria, Italy.
We will be planting 1 acre of Syrah this May 2019. We plan to sell our harvest in 3 -4 years. As time goes on we will add acre by acre grape varietals that are popular to the Ramona AVA.
Feel free to drive by and watch the progress!
